Pinewood Derby- RESCHEDULE (again)

pinewood_derby_logoWe don’t know if the school will be open this Friday and Saturday. Since the parking lot had not yet been plowed and there is really no where for anyone to park, we decided at the Committee meeting last night that it would be best to reschedule the Pinewood Derby. This is a big and exciting event and too many obstacle to overcome to get everything setup and running smoothly in a last minute scramble with the weather.

There are back-to-back 3 day weekends coming up. We know many of you like to take advantage of these opportunities with your families. So we decided to hold the Pinewood Derby the weekend of our Blue and Gold Dinner. (Feb 19 & 20). Set up and Registration will coincide with the B&G Dinner that Friday Night. The Race will be at the usual time Saturday morning. We will post a detailed schedule of all the event and times for that weekend. In the meantime, keep finishing those cars! If your kids have already finished their cars, I RECOMMEND putting them away out of sight where they won’t get played with before the race!

Sorry for the inconvenience, but this is pretty typical for our January and February events. We are supposed to get an unusual warm trend at the beginning of February, so enjoy your long weekends!

Pinewood Derby Wheels and Weights Clinic Sunday

Hi everyone,Scouts at Work

I will have a Pinewood Derby Clinic this Sunday 1-6. The main focus will be to help get painted cars ready by adding the wheels and weights. You will need to bring your own weights to the clinic. Purchased weights, washers, fishing weights, etc. will all work fine. I will have an unofficial scale to check the weight.

If your son/ kids have NOT started a car, I have kits and can help you with that as well. The race will becoming up quickly, so please take advantage this weekend if you need it!

Please respond to this thread with a quick email if you are coming by. If Sunday will absolutely not work for you, let me know and we will work something out. I want to make sure every kid gets a chance to participate.

Sorry for the late notice, work got pretty crazy this week. I will have a clinic this Sunday, Jan. 10 from 1-6 at my house. 13002 Mill Ct

All Pack 1863 Cub Scouts will receive their official BSA Pinewood Derby Car Kit at the clinic. Parents and siblings are welcome to join in the fun! We will have extra kits available at the clinics for the cost of the kit ($4). On our race day in January, we will have a friends and family division for everyone.

PLEASE HAVE YOUR CHILD DRAW A DESIGN ON PAPER BEFORE COMING TO THE CLINIC.

page1-1280px-PWD_Template.pdf

At the Clinic your child will:

  • complete the design of the car and learn how to make their car fly!
  • learn the tools we will use to make the car and how we use them safely
  • an adult will cut the rough shape of the car out
  • a place for weights will be drilled out
  • they will begin to sand their car and learn the technique and tips for a great paint job
  • they will machine their axles to improve the speed of the car

When they leave, they will take an unfinished car home to continue sanding and paint at home.

If you would rather do the work yourself at home with your child, you can stop by and pick up the kit and ask any questions.
