Pack Meeting this Tuesday at 7 P.M.

We will have our October Pack Meeting this Tuesday (Oct. 6).

The theme for October is Brave– Super cubs! A Scout Is Brave—How Does “Super Cub!” Relate to This Point of the Scout Law?

Superheroes are known for facing danger even when they are afraid. A Scout, like a superhero, has the courage to stand for what he thinks is right even if others laugh at him or threaten him.

  •  We will continue Registration for the 2015- 2016 scouting year ($85 per scout). If you have not yet gotten your cub scout uniform, the Scout Store will be at our Pack Meeting! with uniforms and patches available for purchase. They were generous enough to plan to come out to our meeting this year to help parents avoid the drive out to the store in Springfield.
  • We will have sign-ups for the Fall Family Camp Out- Oct 17-18. You can pay the fee at the Pack Meeting as well ($10 per person, max $50 per family). This helps us get an advanced head count and the funds in place to purchase the food and supplies needed for the camp out. This is a fun and easy opportunity to introduce kids to camping. We have a lot of first timers out there each year. The kids have a great time and the parents get time to socialize. It is not required that you spend the night, although highly recommended! Just come out and have fun with the kids!

Pack Meeting Activities:

  • How to set up a tent for camping (with help from the Webelos)
  • The Smoke Ring Vortex Cannon! Knocking down paper cups with a ring of smoke.

Pack Leadership needed

As we get ready to kick off the 2015- 2016 year for Pack 1863, we need to fill some vacancies in our Pack Leadership.

We need a Tiger Leader and Assistant Leader to lead our excited new Den of young First Graders this year.

We need a Wolf Leader and Assistant Leader to take over the leadership since Thomas and his family moved over the summer.

Whether you have experience as a Scout or not, it makes no difference. The programs are organised by BSA in such a way that any adult can quickly become a competent leader and valuable member of the Pack. Look at it this way, it is time you will get to set aside each month to spend some time doing fun hands on activities with your son and the friends he will have for a big part of his childhood. Middle School comes too quickly and its a big place. These are the years the boys will really remember spending time with their friends from scouts. Classes change, sports teams change, but their Den is a unique place where they will get to be with a core group of friends from now until late in their Fifth Grade year. It’s really a lot of fun watching them grow up together and having an assistant helps to fill the gaps when you have to be away for work.

If you would like to be a Leader or Assistant Leader for any of the Dens this year, please see Sonya or Scott.

Thanks and we are excited to get started with a new year!

JSN Tuesday @7 pm

This Tuesday at 7 p.m. we will have our Join Scouting Night. We will have a ceremony to hand out awards for the boys’ summer camp achievements. Afterwards, the kids will go down to the gym with some of the leaders and parents to play some games together. The rest of the parents will remain in the cafeteria to get info about the Pack and our upcoming scouting year. We will go over a few things that are coming up soon, such as the Fall Family Camp Out and Scouting for Food and answer any questions. There will be tables set up in the back for Registration and for the Cub Closet in case you need to look for any uniform pieces.

If you are a veteran with the Pack, come celebrate the awards with the boys and register before you go. We will have our first “normal” Pack Meting October 6th.

Join Scouting Night – September 22

We will kick off our 2015-2016 Scouting Year on September with our annual Join Scouting Night and Pack Summer Awards Ceremony.

Come and sign up for another exciting year of scouting! We will be starting the new Cub Scouting Adventure Program this Fall. So the books will change and many changes and additions have been made to the awards this year. For more info go to: BSA Cub Scout Adventure Program

Looking to Volunteer?  We NEED Leaders for the Tiger and Wolf Dens this year!

Please come see Sonya or Scott at the JSN if you would like to ask about helping out. We can help answer any questions before you make the commitment. Training and materials are available for the program year, but we need your help!
