Blue and Gold Friday Feb 6th/ Pinewood Derby Saturday Feb 7th
This Friday night is our annual Blue and Gold Dinner. The dinner is catered by Tony’s Pizza and we have the Reptile Guy for entertainment this year. To help with the cost of each, tickets are $5 each, with a maximum of $20 for a family. Pay at the door.
We will begin setup at GBE in the cafeteria at 5 p.m. The dinner starts at 6:30 p.m. PLEASE NOTE: Our Pinewood Derby was rescheduled for Saturday (Feb 7th). Our Registration will coincide with the Blue & Gold Dinner. We will be doing both registration and track setup Friday night. We need LOTS of help with all the work that goes into both events. If you are able to volunteer your time to help setup these events, you can arrive at 5 p.m. We would appreciate all the extra hands pitching in throughout the night Friday night. Doors open for the Pinewood Derby Saturday at 9 a.m. We need to get everything setup Friday night and cars registered to keep our 10 A.M. start time. We will begin Saturday at 9 A.M. with late registrations, but we aim to keep these to just a few cars.
Pinewood Derby has been rescheduled for February 6-7th.
We had a very tough call to make this time. Given the uncertainty of the weather, we have decided to cancel the Registration and Race scheduled for tonight and tomorrow morning. FCPS has not made a decision regarding the schools being closed this weekend. We talked with GBE staff several times today to get as much information as possible. The track setup is very intensive. Closing the schools would mean we would have to organize with GBE to come back in and break everything down over the weekend in time for school Monday. We also had to consider the large amount of perishable food that would be wasted due to a late cancellation.
Our New Date for Pinewood Derby is Feb 7th. Registration will occur during our Blue and Gold Dinner on Feb 6.
Our apologies for the inconvenience. We know that families look forward to this event. We will reboot everything in two weeks and run everything as usual. (hopefully)

Pinewood Derby Race Info
Registration will begin tonight at 6 p.m. We will have stations set up to adjust and test weight, lube wheels, and make minor repairs. When you get in line to register, your child should have their car ready to race. Once a car is registered, it is sent to the Pit. Once there, it cannot be touched again until the Race. Registration typically ends around 9 p.m., but volunteers will stay longer to complete the massive setup for this event.
The doors open at 9 a.m. Saturday morning for Race Day! We will begin a late registration for anyone still needing it. The race will begin about 10:30 a.m. We will have the Cafe open throughout the race for everyone to purchase snacks and drinks.
INCLEMENT WEATHER WARNING!!
We are looking at another snow event this weekend. We will have to make a late determination today as to whether the Pinewood Derby will be Cancelled. FCPS is still making their final decision. I will email you as soon as we can make the decision.
Feb 7 will be our back up date. This means Registration and setup will coincide with our Blue and Gold dinner that Friday night. We would race Saturday morning following the same schedule.

STEM Nova Award Lab: LEGO Machines, Swing! Register and get more info here
| NCAC is co-hosting a LEGO-based educational play, one-hour workshops with BricksForKidz in which Cub Scouts may earn their NOVA Swing! Award. Cubs will learn all about different simple machines, levers, pulleys, inclined planes, then get to build their own simple machine – a See-Saw.
This workshop fulfills requirements 3, 4, 5a & 5b, and 6 of the Nova Swing! Award for Cubs and Webelos. Cubs who complete the other requirements in advance may get their Nova Award (patch or pi pin) from the Camp Snyder Trading Post on the same day. The fee for this workshop is $20. Registration will be forthcoming on November 16, 2014. Saturday and Sunday Car Cutting Clinics:
Sign up here! This is the final weekend of Car Cutting Clinics! Don’t forget to sign up, so we can plan for extra help this weekend. If you have any problems or questions, please email me. Siblings are welcome to participate. All cubscouts get their kits free. I have extras for siblings (or parents) that you can buy from me at cost ($4.00) to avoid a trip over to the store.
Pinewood Derby Car Cutting Clinics
The clinic can take as little as an hour, or you can stay the full session. It depends on how involved your kids want to get that day. Plan for about a 2 hour window. The kids will design, cut and begin sanding their cars and prepare/ polish the axles before they leave. Each child will leave with their car kit and sand paper to finish the job with you at home. You will also be given tips on priming and painting the car before race day on January 24th.
